Well a lot depends on the type of photography you prefer.  If you don't mind re-staging certain first times (first kiss, cake cutting, etc) of the night, for your memories then maybe not.  If you'd like to look back at your wedding images and see those precious memories as they happened then you should strongly consider it.  Weddings are teeming with emotion and people's actions aren't scripted.  You just never know when someone will turn away from the photographer and make that great memory, or when Great Aunt Joan will suddenly stand up right in front of the photographer to capture that special moment.  

It's also important to know what kind of assistant the photographer is bring with her.  Is this just someone to help out but not really a photographer, is this just an intern in training,  or is this another skilled photographer.  The pictures taken by the second shooter will also represent your wedding memories so it's important that he/she is very skilled.
